First Year- 1 month of Hospitalist Medicine
One month of regularly scheduled days which may include weekends. This is the inpatient management service where family medicine trained hospitalists assume care of any patients admitted initially by internal medicine specialists (and your resident peers!). You will gain a roster of patients to round upon and manage under the supervision of a hospitalist on schedule.
At Brampton Civic Hospital, unlike clinical teaching units, there are generally only two residents on a hospitalist rotation at a time. In keeping with your level of training and comfort, the emphasis of this rotation is on learning experiences rather than service of covering the floors.
There may also be opportunity during this rotation to attend outpatient clinics operated by the hospitalist staff.
This rotation will build on your foundation of inpatient medical management which is something many of our residents go on to incorporate in their future practices.
1-2 months Internal Medicine / Surgery Selective
Another hospitalist rotation can be incorporated during your selective blocks. This second year selective has the emphasis on maintaining higher patient loads and having increased responsibility to solidify your skills for entering into practice.
