Wise Elephant
The Wise Elephant Downtown Brampton Family Health Team (wiseelephantfht.ca), led by Dr. Lopita Banerjee and Dr. Sanjeev Goel,  is committed to providing efficient, quality and compassionate care to our community because YOUR HEALTH MATTERS.  We offer residency trainees an enhanced learning environment, community based care and one-on-one mentorship. We strive to provide a peaceful environment for our patients to receive high quality, compassionate and holistic health care as well as be leaders in our community.  The "Wise Elephant Family Health Team”  is located in the heart of downtown Brampton.  It operates out of 2 renovated Victorian homes that stand as an established fixture within the community.

Currently, our Family Health Team is supported by 2 nurse practitioners, a Mental Health worker, a palliative care nurse, a diabetes educator, a pharmacist, and an occupational therapist.   We believe in working in a  collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and believe in a culture of continuous quality improvement and innovation  from all of our physicians, interdisciplinary health practitioners and staff.

Dr. Lopita Banerjee has been working in Brampton since 2002 after graduating from the University of Toronto, where she completed a third year fellowship in addictions and chronic pain medicine.   Dr. Banerjee has an interest in international and global health.  She has worked in Myanmar, Nepal and India.  She has also worked with Peel Public Health in developing Domestic Violence programs, and continues her work at the Healthy Sexuality Clinic run by the Peel Health Dept.  Dr. Banerjee is active staff at the William Osler Health Centre and is the physician lead for family physicians practicing primary care obstetrics.  She is also part of the Central West LHIN Maternal/Newborn Advisory Committee.

Dr. Sanjeev Goel has been practicing family medicine in Brampton since completing residency training from McGill University.  As a physician, he has been a doctor on a cruise ship, run a mobile health clinic in Nepal, worked in Kenya and completed training in mindfulness meditation and clinical acupuncture.  Currently, Dr. Goel is a rehab hospitalist at Brampton Civic Hospital and the Primary care lead for the Central West LHIN’s  Diabetes Regional Coordination Centre.

Our Family Health Team is also involved in an international health project in a rural village in the Foothills of the Himalayas.  For the past 2 years we have taken family medicine residents to do an international health elective with us.  You may find more information on this at IndiaProject.ca.

Our clinic has provided learning experiences to a variety of medical trainees, IMG students, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and residents over the years.  We enjoy teaching and believe that the speciality of family medicine is a front-line, patient-centred, comprehensive, continuous and community focussed practice.  We look forward to seeing you!
